Analysis of a Campaign

Inception:

The above magazine front covers show various ways in which the film comes across mysterious.

The colour scheme of the magazine covers show an almost dream world with pale dark and mysterious colours also by using this colour scheme it shows a dark side to the film itself. On each cover they have used the star of the film 'leonardo di caprio' this is one of the major selling points of thed film becuase he is a big star of hollywood so just his image or name will make people go to see the films especially the ones who are so called die hard fans.

On the empire front cover the film also relies on the name of the director 'christopher nolans' to sell the film the producers of the front cover have been very mysterious and are not giving very much away about the film.

The above film poster shows again the same colour pattern as the others also it offers the same mysteriousness about the film and this makes people wonder why people are upside down and what going on. It also show that it is a type of dream world the main character who is situated at the front of the poster again shows that they heavily dependant on leonardo di caprio to sell the film. This poster introduces the other characters in the film who are all holding weapons which shows that it is a violent film with sci fi twist. They have used arrange of neutral and dark colours in the poster which show a dream world again. But the title of the film is in a bold red colour which is eye catching to the public eye.

The above posters show a sense of a dream world again but all these posters are not giving the film away the are leaving a sort of question mark hanging over the film itself becuase the poster make people wonder what the film is about and why these characters are in un real situation which again ilabirates a dream world. one of the key things that show a dream world is the building the way they are up the walls and they are made not to look like buildings they are made to look scary and over powering on the poster which shows that the characters are controlled by something or someone which is in their heads or in their lives are controlling the to do these things.

The above trailers again are showing a strange and mysterious world with again a dream aspect the trailers let alittle bit more slip than the posters but still it is hard to understand what the film itself is about. The trailers are still hugely dependant on Leonardo di Caprio who is the star of the film. ypu realise this by him being in almost every clip in the trailer. Instead of giving the film away the are heavily relying on the star to sell the film so they can keep the secretive 'ora' about the film. one of the key sentences that have came up on every film poster and int he trailers are 'your mind is the scene of the crime' this makes the public think about what does this mean and why are they saying this. this also shows that there is a dark anbd it is going to be thriller type of movie because it mentions the word 'crime' and the first thing that comes into mind is thriller, guns and cops, which some of these are shown in the film. The words 'your mind' show that some of what goes on in the mind becuase as soon as you hear it you think dream, psycotic and strange.
